Donations of IT Equipment

We are accepting donations of electronics up until Friday 3rd December 2021.
After this date we will not be taking in any donations again until mid-January in the new year (date TBC).

The Edinburgh Remakery is able to accept donations of IT equipment from individuals and businesses. We can accept donations of laptops, tablets, iPads, PCs, smart phones, cables, chargers, and routers.

We are not able to accept monitor screens under 21″ in size, printers of any kind, or general household electrical goods, such as toasters or kettles. Please note that we also no longer accept any donations of furniture or homewares.

The safety of our customers and staff members is a top priority. To ensure your health and safety we have implemented some changes to our donations procedures. Please read these procedures below and view the poster below before bringing along goods to donate.

At this time, Leith Walk is undergoing major road works which means there is no parking directly outside of the Remakery. If you are bringing items to us by car,  you can park in the loading area at the foot of Leith Walk for drop-offs; it’s a coned off parking zone and the Remakery is around 200 metres or so up from there on the left hand side. For larger donations, you can also park in the Logistics Hub (just a bit further up from the coned off area on the Walk) and one of the tramworks Logistic Officers will be able to help bring the items up to us – please contact the Logistics Hub Supervisor directly to let them know you are coming and will require assistance by calling 07834345708.

If you’re a business with IT equipment to donate, please visit our Free IT Equipment Disposal Service information page here.

  • IT donations can be made directly to our dedicated donations drop-off at 127 Leith Walk from 11am-3pm Mondays-Fridays. Donations cannot be accepted outwith these times.
  • Please ensure that you maintain a distance of 2-metres from other customers and staff members at all times.
  • We will be disinfecting all areas in and around the donation point throughout the day, and will be quarantining and disinfecting all donated goods for 24 hours before handling.
  • PLEASE NOTE that Remakery staff hold the right to deny any donations at will or if they believe the donor is unwell – please do not attempt to make a donation if you’re feeling under the weather.

Thank you all in advance for your generous donations, and for your understanding and compliance of the above measures.

You can find answers to other common questions below. If you have any further questions about our IT donations procedure, please feel free to get in touch with us at

Can you guarantee that you will accept my donation?
The Edinburgh Remakery reserves the right to refuse donations on grounds of suitability for the purpose of its business operations. There are some things that we are, unfortunately, unable to accept.
I’m not able to get to the Edinburgh Remakery, can you collect donations?
We cannot collect any items at this time.
My equipment has personal data on it. Will this be removed before it is given to a project or sold on?
We use a US Government Department of Defence approved algorithm to securely wipe any data from donated equipment – using the 5220.22-M (3 pass) protocol. This is 99.999% secure and ensures all data is destroyed and is non-retrievable.
Can I bring in a donation outside of the specified drop-off hours?
We are unable to take donations outside of the stated drop-off hours, which are 11am to 3pm Monday  to Friday.
My laptop is old / missing parts / has no battery / is not working – can you still accept it?
If your laptop is Windows 7 or newer then we can source spare parts in order to refurbish it. If it is in very bad condition or older than this, please email the make and model and a photo if possible to and we will let you know if we’re able to accept it.
I have furniture to donate – can you accept it?
At this time we are not currently accepting donations of furniture.
