Furniture and IT Donations

If you have belongings you no longer need, donate them to us instead of throwing them away!

We repair, refurbish, and resell furniture and IT equipment at affordable prices, or give them to those in need as part of our #RemakeADifference community work. By donating to us you will be helping to prevent items from being thrown into landfill and polluting our environment, and will also be helping the community.

We accept donations from individuals, companies and other charities. Many of the items that are donated to us are damaged and need work done to them before they can be reused, which is what makes us so different to other charity shops; we can accept damaged goods that other charities cannot, rescuing these from being thrown away and ending up in landfill.

Scroll down for a full list of furniture and IT items that we can accept as donations.

If you have an item that we are unable to use or one that is neither IT or furniture related that you want to re-home, you can visit  the National Reuse website to find somewhere that can help.

You can also support our project by making a cash donation using the button below. All donations are gratefully received and will go towards increasing our work within the local community to support those in need and creating a world without waste.

FAQ’s

Can you guarantee that you will accept my donation?
The Edinburgh Remakery reserves the right to refuse donations on grounds of suitability for the purpose of its business operations. There are some things that we are, unfortunately, unable to accept. We are happy to come out and view items for donation, but cannot ensure that we can accept them until our team have confirmed this on viewing the item.
I’m not able to get to the Edinburgh Remakery, can you collect donations?
We can collect furniture items for free anywhere in Edinburgh. We are only occasionally able to collect IT and electronics donations so please contact us with details of your donation and your location and we will get back to you to confirm if this is possible – hello@edinburghremakery.org.uk / 0131 629 9358.
My laptop/phone/PC has personal data on it. Will this be removed before it is given to a project or sold on?
We use a US Government Department of Defence approved algorithm to securely wipe any data from donated equipment – using the 5220.22-M (3 pass) protocol. This is 99.999% secure and ensures all data is destroyed and is non-retrievable. If you are concerned about your personal data then we are able to issue a ‘Secure Data Wipe Certificate’ on request.
Can I bring in a donation outside of your opening hours?
We are unable to take donations outside of our opening hours (www.edinburghremakery.org.uk/contact). If you’d like to make a cash donation then you can do this any time, simply use the ‘Donate’ button on this page.
My laptop is old / missing parts / has no battery / is not working – can you still accept it?
If your laptop is Vista or newer then we can source spare parts in order to refurbish it. If it is in very bad condition or older than this, please email the make and model and a photo if possible to hello@edinburghremakery.org.uk and we will let you know if we’re able to accept it.

Our furniture delivery and collection service is funded by Changeworks as part of the Zero Waste Leith project. Find out more about this initiative to make Leith a greener city by visiting their Facebook page.
