CANCELLED Hand Embroidery Workshop @ Alex Bakes, Saturday 11th April 2020

The Edinburgh Remakery, Alex Bakes and Hand Embroiderer Lauren Smith are teaming up to teach you the skills to breathe new life into your clothes!

Book your space now for a discounted rate of £36 full price (usually £48) and £27 concession (usually £36)!

Embroidery is a simple yet effective technique to transform your belongings, adding unique, delicate details to an otherwise plain piece of clothing, or introducing a range of funky patterns and colours to a design to make it completely unique!

This workshop will teach you a range of different hand embroidery techniques and stitches, such as a running stitch, satin stitch and French knots, which you can use to create different finishes and add character to your clothing.

You’ll be given plenty of opportunity to experiment with these techniques and get comfortable with the stitches before using the skills you’ve learnt to start upcycling your own piece of clothing. This could be a pair of jeans, a denim jacket, an old t-shirt or shirt, or even a tote or shoulder bag that needs revamping! (Please note that anything made from denim, cotton or cotton blends is perfect for embroidery, however leather and fur or faux fur items are not suitable).

This workshop is ideal for beginners or those looking to refresh their embroidery skills and try out something new. All materials, tools, and equipment are provided, including an embroidery hoop, practice fabrics, and embroidery threads in a variety of colours. If you have your own coloured threads you’d like to use then please bring these along with you, along with your item of clothing to upcycle.
