Education and Workshops Coordinator Job Description and Responsibilities

Based at Edinburgh Remakery, – Leith E-Waste & Education Hub

Salary: £21,000, full-time

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2021, with the potential for extension, subject to funding

Background info

Edinburgh Remakery is an award winning social enterprise which teaches repair and mending skills and campaigns for zero waste and strong community support. We teach repair skills and promote other repair activities. We look to make a culture of repair and reuse the norm, rather than an exception.

As of August 2020 we have pivoted our business model to focus on key business priorities. To this end the premises at Leith Walk has now become our E-Waste & Education Hub. This centre will concentrate on two streams; the first being our IT Disposal Service for both businesses and individuals and the refurbishment of IT equipment – with sales through our online shop. The second, our Education model.

Our Education model will take two routes:

  • Educational Workshops for individuals, community groups and bespoke events such as staff away days, birthdays, and more
  • Employability Opportunities with various entry points from volunteering, apprenticeships, internships and work placements

The main focus of this role will be the development and daily coordination of the workshops and the education routeway, and will be accountable to the Marketing and Events Manager.

Developing our workshops will help us increase our offering to new audiences as well as our existing supporters, engaging with the community in the process. It also aims to provide income generation as part of our social enterprise objectives. It will be essential to steer the workshops  towards profitability, building on an established business model. A detailed business plan is in place, and the role will demand an ability to put this into action whilst allowing room for innovation and new, relevant business ideas.

The Circular Economy will generate many job opportunities in the future and our Education Model aims to address the skills-gap and ensure a skilled workforce for the future. The Education opportunities should address both our charitable objectives; giving back to the community whilst also incorporating benefits to our social enterprise, i.e deliverable projects that attract funding streams.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who is creative, forward thinking, entrepreneurial, organised, and who has excellent judgement. You will be able to translate your own and others’ ideas into operational plans, analyse commercial strategies, develop business partnerships and be an excellent communicator.

This challenging and rewarding role requires proven success in a training, events, circular economy or Third Sector context.

Essential tasks:

  • Coordinate and manage all workshops, liaising with tutors and freelancers
  • Coordinate workshop bookings and customer enquiries
  • Create and monitor workshop targets to measure progress against the business plan
  • Report on Impact
  • Manage a mixed stream of income from workshops income and grants income
  • Develop Education Model with external partners
  • Coordinate Employability programme
  • Write clear monthly reports on KPI’s to funders and the Management Team
  • Create targets for staff to measure progress against the business plan
  • Set evaluation criteria for projects

Essential experience

  • Project management experience
  • Business development and sales experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable experience

  • Experience in workshop or event management
  • Experience of employability programmes
