Lampshade ReMaking Workshop, Saturday 21st November 2020

Turn a dated, damaged, or unloved lampshade into a beautiful centrepiece for your home in our 2-hour Lampshade ReMaking workshop.

In this class you will learn how to expertly strip your old lampshade frame, clean it up to prepare it for your new cover, and remake it in a fabric and style of your own choice. You will learn valuable lampshade making techniques as well as gain skills which you can use to remake lampshades again and again at home.

You will need to bring along your own lampshade for this workshop, size and shape details below. Second hand lampshades can be bought cheaply at many charity shops throughout Edinburgh if you don’t have one already. You can choose to bring along your own material (dimension details also below) and tailor your new lampshade to a specific room in your home, or be adventurous and choose your material from our range of stock on the day.

All other tools and materials are provided as well as teas and coffees to fuel your creativity!

Shade and material details

Shades can be a maximum of 40cm in diameter. Your shade must also be a rigid sided shade where the shade fabric is bonded to a PVC cover, and not a soft sided shade where the fabric is sewn onto a metal frame. Suitable shade types are drum, cone or oval. If you would like to bring along your own fabric, please make sure you have a piece wide enough to wrap around your shade plus 2cm overlap (for round, oval or cone shades, you can calculate this by measuring the diameter of the shade x 3.15 +2), and as tall as the shade plus 10cm for positioning and tucking in (for example, if you want to make a 25cm diameter 20cm high shade, you will need a piece of fabric which is 81cm X 30cm).

This workshop will be taking place at Granton Hub, Madelvic House, Granton Park Avenue, Edinburgh EH5 1HS. Madelvic House is just off the cycle path, has a dedicated car park and is a 2 minute walk from the number 19, 16 and 200 bus stop. We will be using their large studio space which will allow for social distancing and have implemented all health and safety measures to ensure your safety and comfort. More details of these measures will be emailed out to confirmed attendees the week before the workshop start date.
