Keen to learn something new and inject some creativity into your week? Join our resident bookbinder Cass of Bookbinding with Cass, for a 5-week Introduction to Upcycled Bookbinding course where you will learn a range of stitches and go home with a finished book or journal each week!
This 5-week course will be running every Tuesday, 6:30-8:45pm, from 6th October-3rd November 2020, and will focus on a different bookbinding method each week using everyday, pre-loved materials.
Book your space now for £135 and receive a free bookbinding starter kit with everything you need to continue creating your own unique books at home.
You are welcome to bring along any decorative paper, postcards, photographs and bits & bobs you would like to incorporate into your books to give them a personal touch, or choose from the eclectic mix of materials provided. A bookbinding starter kit is included in the price so you will have your own awl, bone folder, needle and punch board.
Bookbinding newbies welcome! Cass will take you through the whole process step by step, resulting in a collection of hand-crafted books, which make for great personal journals, notebooks and sketchbooks as well as unique gifts – a great skill to learn!
What bookbinding techniques will you learn?
Exposed long stitch binding – create a sturdy leather or pleather covered journal with decorative exposed stitching and pencil holder
Accordion spine binding – transform scrap card into an accordion spine expandable book
Japanese stab binding – learn a number of methods for stitching single sheets of paper together using a decorative exposed stitch and create collage-d covers
V stitch binding – a more advanced decorative exposed binding with a leather or pleather cover and nifty fastening
Concertina fold book – from a single sheet of paper, create a multidimensional folded book, with hard covers and experiment with adding envelope pockets and stitching in booklets
