MORE DATES COMING SOON!
This workshop will take place every Tuesday from 6:30-8:00pm from 23rd March – 20th April 2021
In this online version of our popular Introduction to Upcycled Bookbinding course, Cass will introduce 4 book structures using remnant materials such as leather, textiles, beads, buttons and paper to create a collection of books that range in size and shape. The workshop will take place over Zoom offering a chance to ask questions, make together and share our creations. In some cases Cass will refer you to pre-recorded videos that take you through how to stitch your books, so that you can work through this at your own pace and pause/rewind/revisit as needed.
Session 1: Zig Zag Japanese stab binding – learn how to stitch single sheets of paper together using a decorative exposed stitch and create collaged covers
Session 2: Exposed long stitch binding – create a sturdy leather or pleather covered journal with decorative exposed stitching and pencil holder
Session3: Accordion spine binding – transform scrap card into an accordion spine expandable book
Session 4: V stitch binding – a more advanced decorative exposed binding with a leather or pleather cover and nifty fastening
Session 5: time to finish off your books, explore different fastening techniques and share tips for continuing your journey into bookbinding.
A materials kit is available which includes all the paper, card, glue, tape and thread you will need, plus an eclectic mix of remnant materials from the Remakery to incorporate into your books. There will be lots of opportunity to add your own decorative papers and materials too, which will be covered in the first session. There is also the option to purchase a kit with or without bookbinding tools depending on what you already have to hand.
