4-Week Introduction to Book-Binding Course, 11th October – 1st November 2021
This workshop will take place each Monday from 6:15pm-8:00pm for 4 weeks, running from 11th October – 1st November.
Our ever-popular Introduction to Upcycled Bookbinding course, is now available virtually! We’ve taken our usually sell-out creative course online, to bring bookbinding skills to you wherever you are in the world!
Throughout this course, our expert bookbinder, Cass, will introduce you to a range of creative techniques over the 4 weeks, teaching you a variety of binding skills so that you can make your very own beautifully handmade books.
This workshop makes use of remnant materials, such as leather or pleather offcuts, decorative fabrics, beads, buttons and patterned paper to allow you to create a collection of sustainable, waste and plastic free, upcycled books in a range of shapes and sizes.
All materials needed for this course will be posted out to each participant, and you can also choose to include a bookbinding start kit with your materials pack so you’ll have everything you need to continue making books yourself once the course is finished!
The workshop will take place over Zoom, giving you the chance to ask questions, make books together and share our creations as we go. In some cases, Cass will also refer you to pre-recorded videos to take you through the finer points of stitching and binding your books, so that you can work through this at your own pace and pause/rewind/revisit as needed.
Session 1: Zig Zag Japanese stab binding – learn how to stitch single sheets of paper together using a decorative exposed stitch and create collaged covers
