Volunteer Opportunities

The Edinburgh Remakery is always on the lookout for fantastic volunteers to lend a hand in our shop, our various workshops and events, or training with our IT technicians.

We value each and every one of our volunteers and always endeavour to give them valuable experience and training in the fields they are interested in, the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and be part of the Remade in Edinburgh enterprise.

So how can you get involved?

We have opportunities available working on our shop floor, within our IT department, assisting with our various workshops, and in our new Woodwork Studio. Have a look at the descriptions below and if you are interested on any of these roles send us an email to hello@edinburghremakery.org.uk

Shop AssistanT

​Sales and Shop Floor Assistants play a vital part in the running of The Edinburgh Remakery.

​The role involves greeting and aiding all customers that come into The Remakery, helping with deliveries of new furniture and stock, including cleaning and refurbishing.

Also researching their origins to ensure we can share this information with customers and price them correctly, as well as visual merchandising of products and helping to create inspiring and engaging window displays to attract customers.

There will also be some opportunities to assist tutors in our regular workshops, as well as helping to arrange and run in store events and projects when they take place.

Woodwork Assistant

We are looking for volunteers who are keen to learn the skills to develop up-cycled products which will help our shop become more profitable and help facilitate our advertised workshops.
Volunteers will get the opportunity to contribute design ideas for up-cycled home ware and furniture pieces while being supported by the resident furniture worker to make a high quality Remade range for our sales floor. We welcome people who like to experiment in a workshop environment, have an eye for design, practical hand skills, or just have a strong commitment to the Remade ethos.
Volunteers also provide valuable support to our tutors by assisting in the smooth running of our workshops. Workshop assistants work closely with skilled tutors which gives them a unique chance to enhance their own skills while delivering these skills to others.
No previous experience is required, so if you’re handy with tools and want to develop creative skills, or already have an eye for design and would like to learn the hard skills which can make your ideas a reality, let us know.

IT volunteers

Drop-in Session IT Repair Assistant

We hold a free Repair Surgery every Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 8:30pm. Your role as an IT Repair Assistant will be to assist the main IT technician in helping and aiding customers, giving them advice about IT products, and teaching them how to fix a variety of computer-based electronics, including laptops, computers, tablets and mobile phones. In addition to this, you will help to refurbish and up-cycle IT equipment which has been donated to the Edinburgh Remakery, and promote its aims and ethos. Over the course of your volunteering, you will build up the knowledge and experience to become an IT Technician yourself.

IT Refurbishment Assistant

As an IT Refurbishment Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the IT repair team with the refurbishment and repair of computer and IT donations. Over the course of your volunteering, you will learn how to clean and prepare IT equipment for resale, how to troubleshot common problems, as well as how to manage stock and inventory.

IT Sales Assistant

This role involves assisting with the sale of IT stock and equipment to customers on the shop floor, helping customers pick out the right computer and equipment for their needs, and answering any questions they might have about software and hardware requirements.​
